What craft do you work with?
I bring fun and creative craft workshops to children across Swansea and Gower. The workshops offer children the chance to experiment with a range of materials, including felt, wool, ribbons, feathers, pipe cleaners, corks, paint, clay and more. It can vary from decorating bunny ears and baskets at Easter time, witches’ hats at Halloween to crafting reindeer decorations at Christmas.
What was your journey to running craft workshops for children?
After working as a model maker and set builder in the theatre, film and TV industry for over 10 years, I moved to Swansea and became the new set designer for the Winter Wonderland and Grotto Experience at the Christmas Tree Farm in Three Crosses. It is here that I started to experiment with children’s craft workshops to complement the seasonal events at the farm. I love all areas of art and craft and I enjoy using my skills to inspire children to be creative, while having some fun along the way.
What are the creative processes in the workshops you run?
One example of my workshops is making Flowery Headbands for children ages 5 and over.
In this workshop, the children decorate a brightly coloured headband with handmade pompoms and flowers. I will be demonstrate and help the children to make their own pompoms using a pompom maker and to cut out and create their own flowers from felt, including daisies, sunflowers and roses. We use cool melt glue guns to stick our creations together to make a wonderful, unique, personalised accessory.
