Are you still looking for a summer travel destination? The State Garden Show (Landesgartenschau) in Höxter is definitely worth a visit. In it you can also admire a work of glass art by the artist Sigrid Vischedyk.
Her sculpture “HimmelsWelt” stands in front of the entrance to the Creation Garden (Schöpfungsgartens). Even from a distance, the 3.40 m high sculpture made of glass and steel draws attention to the enchanting garden area.
The glass work was created in cooperation with Glasmalerei Peters using laminated safety glass with ceramic digital printing. A glass sample for the artwork is also part of the Craft Hub
The artist has been part of the Craft Hub project from the very beginning.
2021 at the Craft Hub digital residency by Design School Kolding, participants were invited to broaden their horizon regarding reprocessing discarded materials. Inspired by this, Vischedyk used old, discarded materials to build the first model of the sculpture: oak wood and steel. Take a closer look at the model in the Material Library.
The digital residency was also an opportunity to get an insight into other materials and the working methods of other artists and craft makers. New connections were formed in this peer network. Vischedyk attended a course by another participant to explore realistic painting styles.
Sigrid Vischedyk ‘s painting style can be described as abstract painting. Her paintings are done in mixed media. She uses canvases on wooden stretcher frames and the finest artist’s acrylic paints. This abstract style is also clearly recognizable in the medium of glass in her work “HimmelsWelt”.
The artist herself describes the artwork as follows: A segment of an abstract earth is depicted on a parallelogram of glass. The large glass earth, which seems to have become tilted, finds support on one of two steel girders that cross over each other. The crossing of the two steel girders stands for cohesion, solidarity, networking and communication. The upper parts of the two steel girders form an upwardly open triangle that symbolizes the orientation towards heaven – with everything we believe in.
