What craft do you work with?
Áine Ryan is an emerging visual artist from Co. Waterford, Ireland
What inspires you to work with this craft?
Her work encompasses the cast glass process, mixed media, found objects, textiles, and photography. She focuses on the interchange between belonging, place, identity, and memory considered from a feminine rural perspective.
How do you start your creative process?
I am trying to figure it all out; by ‘it’ I mean my place in the world, my place on the family farm, my place in a patriarchal landscape. I focus on notions of belonging, identity, and memory to help me do this.
How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?
Materials and objects of the rural landscape become creative catalysts stirring memories as they move through my hands. By looking to my past and my rural upbringing, I explore the complex ties that bind us to past generations, traditions and the physical landscape
