What craft do you work with?
I am a fine artist, my work is grounded in painting and drawing but I incorporate a range of media into my work including textiles, stitch, photography and print, depending on the context of the project.
What is your background?
I have a degree in painting and drawing and an MA in fine art. My practice based PhD considered how to reconfigure a feminist response to the academic traditions of life drawing. I have lectured in fine art, photography and textiles in further education, and currently run the outreach provision for Swansea College of Art, UWTSD. My more recent practice is concerned with exploring personalised interactions with the local landscape.
What inspires your practice?
My work is underpinned by a fascination with line, form and gesture informed by a focus on phenomenological experience. I love materiality and the opportunity to play with the malleability of materials. My current practice has become very introspective and personal, I am finding it liberating to shift from a viewer centric focus. I am excited by my recent experimentations with wool, learning to spin, weave and use natural dyes and I’m excited to see how this will influence the direction of future work.
