What craft do you work with?

I make brushes and brooms by hand using natural materials. My products are designed to be used as well as admired. I was chosen as a TOAST New Maker 2022 by the fashion and homewares brand who selected five makers demonstrating excellence in skill, originality and craftsmanship.

What inspires you in your work

I aim to make pieces that are beautiful as well as useful. I’m inspired by the joy that can be found by using handmade items every day. I’m certainly inspired by nature too – I work from my garden workshop in Carmarthen and harvest wood for broom handles from my own small patch of woodland.

How does sustainability inform your practice?

My brushes and brooms are made using natural materials.  At the end of their natural lives, the brushes are completely compostable. All waste trimmings from the making process are added to my compost heap. My long-term goal is to grow my own fibre for making full-size brooms, as well as plants for making natural dyes. I strive to leave a small impact on the earth and this would be the ultimate in my quest for sustainability.
