Tina, could you share the primary focus of your craft?
My primary craft revolves around contemporary jewelry and sculpture. I earned my Master’s Degree in metalwork and jewelry from Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Norway, in 2001. Since then, I’ve been immersed in my own workshop, creating pieces for exhibitions, commissions, and sharing my craft through teaching.
What fuels your inspiration in this craft?
The maritime scene profoundly influences my work. My deep passion for the sea, encompassing its form, colors, and functionality, serves as a constant wellspring of inspiration. While I work with various materials like silver, steel, gold, aluminum, wood, and sometimes textiles, metal remains my primary medium. The choice of materials is guided by the ideas, expressions, and functionalities I want to convey. Techniques like enameling and traditional goldsmithing play crucial roles in my creative process.
Could you shed light on how you initiate your creative process?
The creative process starts with a desire to convey a message or tell a story. I explore materials, techniques, and forms that align with the narrative I want to express. This involves trying out various combinations, making decisions on what to explore further, and enjoying the process of trying out variations based on my experiences.
Can you describe your workspace and the essential tools you rely on?
My workspace is a blend of a goldsmith bench, a drawing table, and various equipment including a kiln for enameling, a polishing machine, and a drilling machine. These tools are indispensable to my craft, providing the means to shape and refine my creations.
Are there new techniques you’re eager to explore in your work?
I’m keen on exploring the integration of traditional craftsmanship with digital tools like CNC-machines for wood. This opens up new possibilities for creating intricate designs and expanding the horizons of my artistic expression.

Over the years, I’ve realized the importance of allowing time for wonder and exploration during the creative process. While exploration is crucial, timely decision-making is equally vital. Balancing these aspects has been a valuable lesson in my journey.
