Ara is a “goat” table in solid wood, a handcrafted product from the 20th century. with essential lines, with a four-axis top, two of which are mobile, and a drawer. The table has been cleaned and treated simply with raw oil. The surface of the movable axes was burned with a flame and sealed with oil, according to an ecological technique which produces protective effects on the wood, increases its resistance to fire, water and biological attacks (fungi and insects). The decorative part was made with hand-made prints from stencils carved with gouges and water-based inks. The chosen subjects recall the naturalistic element with a regal shape, the artichoke, and the sacred/sacrifice through the recovery of the classic iconography of the bucranium. Thus, Ara represents the table or the altar, depending on the intended use of it, whose sign of fire connects the ritual memories: originally the “capretta” table was used by butchers to butcher the animals.
