Process & Production

This piece is inspired by my charcoal and graphite drawings and were produced using airbrush, sandblast and painting techniques on 3 layers of glass. The top layer is sandblasted with strips of lines creating an opaque white surface. The second layer is airbrushed with a black enamel mixed with a screen print medium. Airbrushed in steps, using a straight edge mask – moving this edge to create the steps and lines. Blending the effect from dark to light. A strip/line is masked off to remain clear, this clear line is aligned with the last layer of glass where a deep yellow enamel is painted on this layer aligned with the clear line on the second layer so that the yellow comes though all 3 layers of glass. The second and third layer of glass were fired in the kiln at 600c.
