Culture & Context

In a room surrounded by glass windows, in a warm and bright environment, in stark contrast to the frosty outdoor environment, it highlights the tenderness of the two female figures who are lying on each other’s legs.
The walls of home are always the place where you feel safe, warmth, serenity, your comfort zone, but not only that, the people in it play a key role, staying snuggled up on a comfortable sofa is the time you can let go of all the tensions of the day and enjoy the serenity of that moment, here and now.
For this painting I was inspired by a well-known world-renowned U.S. photographer, Gregory Crewdson, his photos are artistic, conceptual, in his shots you can feel the uniqueness of the vision, in interiors or landscapes, of the light creating spectacular images, a chilling prediction of what would happen, finding oneself in this pandemic context, I wanted to recreate the atmosphere of one of his photos through painting, hoping to capture the attention of the viewer leaving a mark.

I chose this shot giving different faces for my own interpretation of the complicity between sisters, my two daughters, Ilaria and Claudia.
