Culture & Context

I’ve been searching for a wild clay I can source and use as a functional, throwable clay body. This is a clay sourced in Midlothian, near to Carlops. The clay sits very close to the surface and is easily accessible. It requires minimal sieving and throws reasonably well. The clay fires to Cone 10 but doesn’t take a glaze so well. I’m trying to develop methods of making without processing the clay, to retain the natural variation and marbling in the clay.
