Sandblasted Birch Ply

This sample was arrived at almost by accident. Using a sandblaster on some objects, I had placed a piece of birch ply as a base while working. As i noticed the layers of the ply beginning to be eroded through the process, I continued to erode the surface, getting deeper through the layers. The result is almost map-like and reveals the variation in colour and texture between the layers of ply.

Using an industrial sandblasting cabinet, a piece of ply is placed into the sealed chamber. Using 120-grit Garnet, the piece was blasted at a pressure of 300 dpi. The blasting arm was ran over the piece in an arbitrary way, spending longer at various points to reveal more of the layers and colours underneath.
