Culture & Context

My aim was to produce wood jewellery where a section of the piece would be deep burned. My desired function for the varnishing was that it would protect the burned layer.

Process & Production

I began by preparing the resin mixture. Next, I carefully submerged the scorched sections of the pieces into the epoxy, allowing them to soak within it. This process allowed the resin to penetrate and envelop the burned wood fibres. Finally, I had the option to either carefully sand away any excess resin and then polish the piece, or employ an alternative approach of briefly immersing the scorched wood sections in the resin for a few minutes before removing them.
