Culture & Context

The puzzle is a learning toy for children, consisting of Norwegian and Icelandic animals and landscape components. The puzzle teach something about the fundamental cultural heritage that comes from our nature. It’s both something that Norwegians and Icelanders share, and something that differs us. The piece’s backside has engraved names of the animals in Norwegian, and on the board the names in Icelandic. This way you can learn the names of the animals in both languages.

Process & Production

The puzzle is hand drawn, then scanned, recomposed and vectorized in Adobe Illustrator. It is lasercutted and engraved, and made in plywood, 4mm thick. The layers are joined with wood glue, and the puzzle pieces have wood plugs drilled in to them. The pieces are colored with grated blackboard chalk and processed with linseed oil to obtain durability, and also being non toxic.
