Working on antique linen banqueting cloths, with natural mineral pigment. Wrap me up explores a connection to climate, culture and cloth. Repurposing cloth that no longer has a suitable use, its life is extended by adding value through pigment application processes; direct application & screenprint. Dots are used as an aesthetic and technical tool to reduce the need for additional colouration. Beauty in fading is explored as a response to fast fashion and throwaway culture – a consistent theme in her work.

Specific Technique

Mineral (earth) pigments are combined with a water based binder, and applied directly on stretched cloth. A process of over or under-printing, by hand using a traditional screen print to create patterns, which have been design using hand-drawing and photography. Imagery is manipulated digitally to create stencil artwork. Visuals are taken from nature and the environment.

Half-tone process is taken from a commercial printing background and adapted in order to minimize use of pigment in an effort to reduce the impact of the colouration on the environment. Unused pigment is captured and reused in direct application. Further value is added through stitch using reclaimed linen yarn waste created in the linen weaving process.
