Ιrini Lazaridou

Mrs. Irini Lazaridou is a Greek visual artist. She was born on April 7, 1959 in Thessaloniki. Her first love was the art of Hagiography. She studied Hagiography and painting for 7 years next to the visual artist Vasiliki Kontou, from 1993 to 1999. Her talent began to show from her first artworks, working with stone powders and egg tempera. While working, she had her first contact with the genuine gold leaves and the sacred woodcarvings. She begins to experiment with melted candles, resin and various materials for ageing - distressing. The Egyptian culture draws her interest. She studies FAYUM portraits for 4 years, working them with encaustic technique and powders. She specializes in their technique both in woodcarvings and in jewellery. She begins to paint rings, pendants, miniature FAYUM pins, working with amagnifying glass. Her next step was to start the FAYUM teaching IN THE JEWELLERY AND MIXED PAINTING TECHNIQUES, at the VAFOPOULIO CULTURAL CENTER OF THESSALONIKI from 2010 to 2014 and to impart her knowledge to dozens of students, many of whom have excelled. At the same time, during the decade 2000-2016 she approaches the painting of the European Renaissance, the CARAVAGGIO and the Orientalists.Consequently, she distances herself from all of these, to begin to discover herself with endless hours of work every day. At the same time, she studies costume design and theatrical costume design in fine arts workshops. She especially loves the Tsarouchis technique, but she has a great weakness for GAUGUIN and adores the work of KLIMT.Her love for KLIMT, leads her to discover the charm of clay and mixed painting techniques, in order to succeed in giving life to paintings, using genuine gold leaves (24 Carats), precious stones and enamels, in a unique way, changing the established way of painting, transforming the paintings into valuable works of art.She approaches the KLIMT's artworks with a different point of view, adding elements that, she believes, he would add if he was still alive today. The artworks become three-dimensional and imposing. She creates a series of paintings with SUBJECT: " IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF KLIMT". A different approach to the artworks of the great artist, many years later! She has several individual Hagiography and painting exhibitions to her credit, held in Vafopoulio Cultural Center of Thessaloniki and in the galleries of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, while she has exhibited her artworks in countless exhibitions such as the INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR OF THESSALONIKI in the years 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.Her artworks adorn the office of the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia in Greece, in Italy, Bangladesh, London, while her portraits adorn the Arab Emirates.During the last 5 years she has participated in Exhibitions in CORCHIANO, ITALY, IN BREMEN OF GERMANY, in ISRAEL, in USA, in CHINA and in QATAR at the INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR FESTIVAL.
