Q&A
Artist Statement
Ayelet has an extensive exhibiting track record (from 1999) in Ireland and internationally, a professional career and a well-established public profile, including public and private commissions.
What craft do you work with?
She works on a variety of scales and formats, primarily in clay as well as mixed media, from miniature to life-size sculptures, murals, and playful furniture.
What inspires you to work with this craft?
Exploring her own conflict with identity has manifested itself into the creation of an icon, in the form of the strong independent woman which has been at the core of her figurative work for decades, embellished by bold decorative aspects of colour, pattern and texture.
How do you start your creative process?
She explores concepts in her work, predominantly using the head, and headwear of her figures as the canvas, often symbolising strength, hierarchy, and power. Ayelets’ practise could be summarised as a mixture of female portraiture, stylisation and fantasy, decorative, and both humorous and serene.
