Claudia Biehne
I like to be brave and willing to take risks to face the unknown. I am an explorer in the playing field of mystical mysteries, looking for new ways of expression.
Q&A
Artist Statement
In my work with porcelain, I am preoccupied with phenomena of nature. Especially fascinating are different aggregate states of water – such as rain, drizzle, fog and ice. When you try to depict ice, for example, limitations quickly become apparent. You will never be able to fully characterize the real appearance of ice with any other medium. You merely set out to get there, and along the way you create objects that may come close to the idea or the feeling, but you can’t hit it exactly. That’s a delightful endeavor.I don’t want to plan every little detail in my workflow. I’m interested in the unknown, which I don’t know about yet. I’m not the perfectionist who gets everything exactly right. Instead, I try to let things run their free course. From this, something develops that perhaps did not exist before. This is how I personally imagine progress, because if we knew what was going to happen beforehand, there would be no progress. It always needs someone who allows a certain randomness and who is not afraid of uncertainty. |
