Q&A
What craft do you work with?
I am a designer maker specialising in jewellery and cutlery. I discovered metalwork after taking part in a jewellery making course in my teens. I have been working in craft (it seems like) forever. My favourite techniques are soldering, forming and texturing.
What inspires you to work with this craft?
I enjoy working in a discipline where I am continually learning and stretching my abilities. Craft is important in a world filled with mass production, as the skills need to be protected for future generations. I enjoy using fairtrade and recycled metals.
How do you start your creative process?
I always research an idea as a starting point which leads to designing and then making samples. The most difficult part is finalising a selection of designs to then make a collection.
How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?
I work in a lovely, stand alone studio with a integrated showroom. I need all of the basic tools, such as a piercing saw and files along with a torch.
Are there new techniques you would like to try?
I would like to learn chasing, which is an ancient technique.
What have you learnt that you would like to share with fellow crafters?
I the important lesson I have learnt, is to build resilience when growing a craft business.
What other types of craft do you dream of collaborating with?
I would love to collaborate with someone who makes clothes.
What professional dream do you have?
A dream is to take part in more solo shows.
