Artist Statement
Stoneware made by hand building (slabs) and glazed with brush-on glazes
What craft do you work with?
Ceramics – Mainly slab , coil and pinch methods, but equally traditional Japanese methods such as carving and patting
What inspires you to work with this craft?
I would like my viewers to be transported somewhere else, where they can sense the tranquillity and beauty of nature. As a Japanese proverb states “Kachoufugetsu “ meaning “ Experience the beauties of nature, and in doing so learn about yourself.
How do you start your creative process?
My aim is to create a studio practice which adapts to the circular economy model.
How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?
Once built and bisque’d, the pieces are decorated using oxides, slips and/or brush-on glazes (depending on its function) and then fired in an electric kiln
