Kirsten Tanner

Hello I'm Kirsten and I founded Queen of the Meadow Flowers to offer an alternative to the traditional flowers sold on the high street and showcase British and seasonal flowers in bespoke arrangements. I deliver workshops and enjoy teaching new ideas and methods to everyone.

Q&A

Artist Statement

I work with fresh and dried flower materials and am inspired by the seasons. I take my inspiration from my surroundings and look to the past for influence. I create natural, winsome and romantic flowers using only the finest blooms from British growers, my own cutting garden and flower markets.I use traditional methods of floristry and do not use floral foam or plastics in my work, this creates a natural and more organic style and look.

What craft do you work with?

I retrained as a florist and have since been offering workshops as well as wedding and event flowers. I am in my fifth year of running my own business. My favourite technique is using traditional methods of moss and chicken wire to create large structures.

What inspires you to work with this craft?

I like to use locally grown flowers, flowers from my cutting garden and foraged items. Many of the flowers I use are artisan and have been grown without the use of chemicals and pesticides. We take interest in where our food comes from so why not know where and how flowers are produced?

How do you start your creative process?

I look at the flowers that are blooming at the time that I am creating and work out the best way to showcase them.

How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?

My workshop is fairly small and packed full of flowers, it is surrounded by farmland and a cutting garden.
