Lea-Marie Kleine

I am very artistically talented and love to I like to work with my hands . Glass and especially the restoration of glass has shaped me since my childhood. Now I'm doing an apprenticeship as a glass refiner, which I enjoy a lot. Glass is an incredibly beautiful materialand can conjure up very fascinating atmospherees in combination with light. Also there are many exciting techniques to work with glass.

Q&A

What craft do you work with?

I’m working with glass and my apprenticeship as a glass refiner started 7 months ago. The glass finishing is divided into two areas: New production and restoration. In new production there are many projects around airbrushing, painting, and sandblasting. The projects are worked out with the artists. Restoration is about reprocessing of old glazing, also reconstruction of paintings and lead coating, etc.

What inspires you to work with this craft?

Glass is a very beautiful material. It can create so many moods in combination with light, and great colour combinations can be created. Many beautiful motifs and projects can also be implemented by painting glass using the various techniques.

How do you start your creative process?

In the creative process, I can completely turn off my thoughts. The most difficult part is the beginning. I have to get off to a good start, and once that’s done, the rest is no longer a problem. The most fun is when you have made the preparations and can really start painting.

How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?

At my Workspace, there are all the necessary tools I need depending on the project. I could never do my work without my glass cutter, tape measure and cutter knife, because I really need them often. Also having a pen in your pocket, is always helpful

Are there new techniques you would like to try?

I have tried many techniques, but “Airbrush” exited me the most. I would love to learn more about it.

What have you learnt that you would like to share with fellow crafters?

In tranquillity lies strength. So, it´s better to do everything a little more thoughtfully and slowly, many projects have time until they have to be finished.

What other types of craft do you dream of collaborating with?

I dreamed of collaborating with restorers who work in the field of painting restoration and the restoration of wooden objects.

What professional dream do you have?

My dream would be to study glass conservation after my education and then work as a conservator.
