Luca Colacicco
Luca Colacicco (Matera 1968) works as a craftsman continuing the family business that has been in operation since 1937. Commercial technician graduate. President UNITAL CONFAPI Matera He follows the MiM project in Collaboration with the Polytechnic of Milan. Collaborates with the University of Basilicata for research on the use of native tree species. Protagonist of a project initiated with Basilicata Innovazione for the realization of an "Ergonomic chair" until obtaining a national patent. Attends a digital fabrication course in collaboration with CAD(digital craftsmanship center) making three-dimensional design objects in wood. Always committed to experimenting with innovative materials and processing where the encounter between art and technology emerges more and more precisely what distinguishes the digital artisan. On the occasion of the event Mirabilia Art in Art in Verona wins the first national award with the realization of the table "Tronco Lucano" Show Fucina Madre Matera and Bienno.Achieves through a recognition of the Basilicata Region the qualification of "Master Craftsman".At ArtiVisive begins the first public approach as an artist with the exhibition "l segni del Legno". Exhibits in Fanano(MO) and Vicenza in collaboration with two other artists the wooden collection of "magical visions of matter". Design and set up table in the house of Gf.2021 . Set up some scenes of the film Imma Tataranni. Teacher at digital craft school in Cava De'Tirreni .

Artist Statement
What craft do you work with?
My business is a third-generation company located in Matera, I have been practicing this work for more than forty years and in addition to my passion for wood I also have a passion for technology.
What inspires you to work with this craft?
My craft is important because it is one of the oldest in the world because it uses natural materials, and it is one of the few that gives you a chance to be creative.
How do you start your creative process?
The most fun part is to think and implement using computers and software, the hardest part is to realize it
How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?
My workspace has various tools, both manual and electronic, I could not do without the use of technology.
Are there new techniques you would like to try?
One of the new techniques I would like to experiment with is to use aerial photography to make works and take inspiration from it to make decorative textures.
What have you learnt or the best advice you have received that you would like to share with fellow crafters?
The use of digital technologies in woodworking.
What other types of craft do you dream of collaborating with?
I would also like to make works in ceramics and paper mache.
What professional dream do you have?
Carrying out my projects and being able to share them with everyone.
