Q&A

Artist Statement

I predominantly work in my studio using a diverse range of art, design & craft approaches: analysing and combining historic techniques with contemporary design ideas to create unique tactile artwork

What craft do you work with?

Textiles – Embroidery

What inspires you to work with this craft?

I use needlework to capture intricate stories: emblematically unravelling and re-working aspects of socio-political, cultural, and environmental issues.

How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?

My work is a triptych of embroidered artworks exploring symbolisms relating to political, economic, and humanity concerns. My work portrays hierarchy and corruption. It also symbolises our ‘crumbling’ society and how our lives are endangered due to the continued living crisis and destruction caused by the World events. I have used the medium of embroidery, as this is a delicate, textural and long-processed medium, which also refers to my ongoing political narrative.

What have you learnt or the best advice you have received that you would like to share with fellow crafters?

The main goal behind my artist-led work is to teach others how to explore and interpret personal and collective memories and experiences through needlework
