What craft do you work with?

I stumbled across an pottery workshop and was set on fire immediately. I quickly decided to dive deeper and did a 3-years-apprenticeship. After that I founded “SCHUTT&ASCHE”.

What inspires you to work with this craft?

I fell in love with the material clay. It’s a great teacher about sensitivity & requires a good use of all your senses to master the process.  Exploring its limits and possibilities is endless. I am also a lot into the cycle of making, the cultural heritage and knowledge in it, the sustainability of producing.

How do you start your creative process?

I discover through making and feeling. There are a few ideas to start with, the rest is making and discarding in loop. Favorite stage is everything before the firings, I prefer the feel of the unfired clay.

How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?

together with MAPU Speaker we founded the (con)temporary Craft Studio, located in the city centre of Bremen. We are having a gallery, shop and our workshops in one place and working with different craftspeople about the topics of materiality, innovation, cultural heritage,…The most precious tools are always the hands! 😉

Are there new techniques you would like to try?

One day I would love to learn the traditional KINTSUGI technique!

What have you learnt or the best advice you have received that you would like to share with fellow crafters?

Making is the only way to learn, don’t let frustrating experiences stop you! <3
