Artist Statement
My work has quite a range from blade smith forging to ceremonial one off pieces of Celtic jewellery and commission pieces. I consider the rock art of the chamber stone at Loughcrew, the kerbstone art at Brú Na Bóinne and generate wearable pendants at the forge. Works are made using traditional forging methods using a coal forge and worked off a range of anvils. Techniques such as “draw to taper”, “drawn out”, “slit & drift” are used in the making. Traditional finishes are used creating a patina finish on works which consists of a mixture of boiled linseed oil, turpentine and bees wax. A good quality leather lace is then used to compliment the work that is then prepared and sent to customers all over the world – A gift from the Boyne Valley. |
