Q&A
Artist Statement
As a glass painter I focus on traditional techniques, materials and methods. Professionally I tend to focus on period restorations, glazing schemes for television productions and teaching. In my own practice I enjoy incorporating varied decorative glass techniques with glass paint, including gilding with precious metals, using shell, acid etching and cold paints.I’m drawn to the visual language of folklore, superstition and the esoteric, working these themes into pieces that employ sympathetic historical glass painting styles and glass selection. |
What craft do you work with?
I immediately fell in love with glass painting while studying architectural glass process. 13 years later and it’s still my greatest passion. I’d find it hard to pick a favourite technique, however silver stain is incredibly transformative and always surprisingly pleasing. |
What inspires you to work with this craft?
I’m passionate about the variations of process glass painting offers and enjoy working with the painted pigments fragility, until it’s fired and made permanent.Stained glass has endured for centuries, the materials and tools have a continuity that feels special and meaningful when you work with them. |
