Culture & Context

Sustainable design, over generations it can be one of the best things a designer can do for the environment. Inside out: Homage to a piano is a dress made of piano that I and 2 other fellow students made, using the method called “Following the things”.The discussion in this assignment is based on esthetics, sustainability, and durability. If people begin to take into consideration when they buy a product, the sustainability of it, it might change the way humanity think and live forever.

Process & Production

The purpose of this school project was to follow the method called “Following the things“. It is an approach that explores a thing through various cultural dimensions and uses that as inspiration for the creation of new designs. Therefore, we researched vintage products that carry their own history. We found a piano that was nearly discarded, and we took it. To raise awareness for how a product‘s lifespan can be increased in order to reduce the environmental footprint of humankind. We decided to make a dress, even though it was not easy. Clothes are often used as an identity, and it can be a statement or they can show someone’s personality. By creating a dress, we wanted to make people understand and see how much work is put into crafting a piano.
