Culture & Context

2K lacquer was developed as an environmentally friendlier option to cellulose based paints.

It is a 2-part product available in all RAL colours which can also be colour tweaked by eye before the catalyser is introduced.

Once mixed, it can be thinned or applied as is with a spray gun.  Leftover material needs to be disposed of as it cannot be stored having been mixed with the catalyser.

Process & Production

This is a 2-component paint system which is mixed with a catalyzer or activator -Typically in a 2:1 ratio before use, and applied with a spray gun to a primed or sealed surface.

If a certain thickness is required, this can be achieved with subsequent layers applied once the previous layer has ‘’flashed’’ or gel; or if fully set, provided a ‘’bite’’ is introduced with light wet-and-dry abrasive paper.

This material is not castable and unlike cellulose paints, no texture can be created at the application stage.

Recipe Details

Tests have shown that this material can be applied to some porous surfaces such as wood or ceramics provided that the surface is appropriately sealed.

Just one coat applied to a porous material will act as a filler for small pores, therefore, subsequent coats will give the base material i.e., wood or ceramic, the appearance of a plastic or painted metal.

Several coats can be applied to achieve a durable coating which can be hand or machine polished.
