Culture & Context

During Covid and with the issues of sustainability, I wanted to use all the plaster moulds I had made for individual projects over the years and recreate something new. As my studio was closed during the pandemic I had time to create something that I had been thinking about for some time. I also wanted to create something bright and cheerful in this difficult time.

The title Fina Giornata….the end of the day…..in Murano,Italy, at the end of a day glass blowers would use the leftover glass to make some of their own creations. This title refers to all the leftover plaster moulds I have been using to reinvent new work.

Recipe Details

I used ‘Electric Blue’ Amaco V386 velvet glaze over the entire piece except for the flowers. Fired to 1200C.

Various other glazes dripped over the pieces afterwards and fired again to 1060C.

Transparent earthenware glaze applied to the flowers for the 1060C firing.

Platinum applied to the flowers and fired to 800C.

All glazes bought from Scarva Pottery Supplies. www.scarva.com
