Free Bending Composites

Storytelling

Composite materials such as dibond aluminium has a middle core of polyethylene which allows a certain amount of movement when attempting free bending activities. These materials come in different grades, some for flat works, others for bending malleability. For some of my sculptural pieces 3 and 5mm composites are excellent for finding graceful curves. They also can be painted which is flexible enough to be bent without cracking. Tight corners should be avoided (unless using the correct grade). Composites can be bent by hand, knee or cylinders My Ruray lamps, Etang light and Infinity Spiral sculptures. show this technique.
