Grip forms_Human hands

Experiment

Human hands. The expression of the three modelled objects represents frozen moments of the grip. The external form is characterized by the imprint of the grip in the plastic clay. The hollow (internal) forms are modeled in various ways and contrast the familiar form of the grip.

Culture & Context

Human forms are part of the empirical material (data) for my doctoral thesis, ‘Grip to get a grip of form. Concrete and abstract comprehension of form’ (2020).

Process & Production

The left hand grip into the soft clay is the starting point for the modeling process. As two variables for exploring the ‘Human hand-forms, I keep the grip upwards or downwards. Two other variables are using my thumb or the three middle fingers of the right hand for modelling the hollow form.
