Process & Production

The shape was modelled in wax which was then invested in refractory plaster. The mould was then steamed to melt out the wax, leaving a void in the mould where the wax once was.  The mould was then placed cold into a kiln, with cold glass placed in a reservoir in the mould.  It was then heated in a mould, melting the glass so it could flow into the void within the mould, taking up the shape of the model.  After firing, the glass was carefully removed from the mould, cut and sand-blasted, then acid polished to create the desired surface finish.
