Culture & Context

Walnut is a beautiful timber, rich in dark chocolate or coffee tones with an attractive straight grained, or sometimes with waves, swirl or burr that adds to the character of the timber. It is a highly prized wood with woodworkers because of it’s strength, grain and colour. Walnut is dark, hard, dense and tight grained and has amazing working properties – particularly for furniture making as it is quite resistant to damage such as denting or scuffing and also has a beautiful aesthetic appearance which can be polished or sprayed to a smooth finish. We typically use either American Black Walnut and it can be used in all aspects of furniture making, as well as kitchens, flooring, and gunstocks.
