Q&A

Artist Statement

Chloé Rochefort is an artist and a facilitator who specialises in textile sculptures and audience-engaging installations.

What craft do you work with?

Textiles – Chloé explores dynamic and intuitive textile processes, such as patchwork, felting, combined with personal storylines and the objects she salvages.

What inspires you to work with this craft?

Inspired by her relationship to European Folk art and discarded objects, Rochefort’s practice questions concepts of belonging, grief and intergenerational relationships. She uses animism to create narratives, full of absurdity and humor. Objects become symbols, which she transforms into characters and receptacles for lost memories.

How do you start your creative process?

Her artworks are social creatures finding their meanings in the way they are built and the conversations they trigger. They explore the encounter between our personal experiences and collective stories.

What have you learnt or the best advice you have received that you would like to share with fellow crafters?

As a material-led researcher and creative, she sees physical interaction with discarded materials as an act of self-care and anxiety-relief.
