Joanne Doyle

I am intrigued with how scent can unlock so many memories and I use my crafting to recreate that experience for my customers.

Q&A

What craft do you work with?

I got into making wax melts as I was suffering with headaches. I was finding that other wax melts that I’d buy from the shops would trigger my headaches. I started to make wax melts for myself and after they turned out so successful I decided to launch Enchanted Castle Melts.

What inspires you to work with this craft?

I love how the wax can hold the fragrance and amplify it’s strength. I love the fact that wax melts are so much cheaper to buy than candles which allows me to provide my customers with a low cost option to fragrance their homes/ workplaces/ offices etc.

How do you start your creative process?

I love mixing the dye’s and mica’s with the melted wax, it’s like a glittery pool of magic that i could watch for ages. I just let my creativity flow as im making up the wax melts i grab the various coloured dyes as im working and colour the wax whatever colour i think matches the fragrance, ie Rhubarb & Custard is bright pink and yellow just like the hardboiled sweets. The hardest part of what i do is putting each melt into cellophane bag and labelling them, this part actually isn’t that hard it just not as fun as the making part.

How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?

My workspace is currently my kitchen which I am currently out growing. I could not do without my wax melter, thermometer or my heat gun. Oh and moulds I suppose I actually couldn’t make any melts without moulds lol

Are there new techniques you would like to try?

As with all crafts there is always new techniques and that is part of the fun of making any craft. We are constantly tweeking and perfecting what we do.

What have you learnt or the best advice you have received that you would like to share with fellow crafters?

My biggest piece of advice is to love what you do and just have fun.
