Mary Nagle

My work is about the human condition, memory, and the infinite possibilities of the ordinary and everyday.

Q&A

Artist Statement

I am drawn to the seemingly inconsequential and the disregarded – materials and objects, both natural and man-made, that have been thrown-away, given away, fallen away or worn away. These often display a richness of visual qualities, sometimes marked by use and time, carrying the patina of their history.

What craft do you work with?

These works are made of human hair, and paper

What inspires you to work with this craft?

Imagining prior use and personal histories, these objects and materials are treasured as repositories of memory.

How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?

My work combines a large range of materials, fragments and objects eg, metal, human hair, clay, wood, plastic, glass, natural forms, copper, bone, involving a wide range of craft processes, including 2D, relief and 3D construction, casting, hand building, painting, gilding, sewing
