Working on deadstock flawed linen, with natural mineral pigment. Impressions from land expresses patterns from the land translated to cloth using direct application and screenprint. Small test prints 15 x 15cm experiment with composition.

Specific Technique

Mineral (earth) pigments are combined with a waterbased binder, and applied directly on stretched cloth.

A process of over or under-printing, by hand using a traditional screenprint to create patterns, which have been design using hand-drawing and photography.

Imagery is manipulated digitally to create stencil artwork. Visuals are taken from nature and the environment. Unused pigment is captured and reused in direct application.

Examines the role of land in the procurement of linen fibres and how colour can be influenced and applied based on the visuals of the land.

Process & Production

Direct colouration on heavy weight textured plain weave linen.

The base texture of the cloth has a role in the overall outcome of the textile sampling.

Recipe Details

Minerals and binders are combined to create a consistency that allows for application on the cloth.
