Culture & Context

This installation piece was made for the Taiwan Ceramics Biennale 2016 and was awarded a bronze medal. It is currently part of the permanent collection of The New Taipei City Yingge Ceramic Museum, Taiwan. These blue torsos are my signature pieces which I still continue to make when telling a story.

Statement:

‘Ode To A Not Too Distant Past’ has a political narrative, a social comment on the devastating effects of the recession on this country. Hopefully we have learned a lesson that excess and greed do not contribute to a healthy economy. We have had to re-assess and re-evaluate how we live our lives, but many years have passed and we are still on the road to recovery…..the Golden Crow… a symbol of creativity and growth…guides us to a more positive future.

Process & Production

Hand built and bisque fired to 800C.

Stoneware firing to 1260C 2 to 3 times, possibly a 4th time, until the required tone of blue is achieved.
