Culture & Context

I wanted to get the expression of deep burned wood for a project related to the burning of the Amazon forest and the human impact on the planet. Wood is a material that can produce many different results when it comes into contact with fire. Different types of wood, in addition to different treatment methods, can lead to different reactions when burning. Burning wood is already used today to engrave expressions or form patterns the wooden surface. With this, I want to see if this technique can be used to bring out intense expressions in the wood by burning deeper into the subject.

Process & Production

I used materials as labeled in the pictures. I used metal forms to try to restrain the burning to a certain area of the surface of the wood.

Recipe Details

I used a gass-sourced flame thrower to burn the material. I also experimented with using burning fluid on the material to see if it would make a more effective process.
