Artist Statement
I am a lecturer on the BA (Hons) Textile Design course at Shetland College. I also teach on the Fine Art course at UHI Shetland and lead classes for school- age children and FE students.
What craft do you work with?
Besides my main interest in textile art and design, especially hand weaving I like to use a variety of media in my work such as painting, drawing, photography and mixed media.
What inspires you to work with this craft?
I research traditional textiles techniques and their heritage in Shetland and incorporate these within my own contemporary design work.
How do you start your creative process?
My practice is concerned with constructed textile techniques such as weave, hand spinning, felting, and dying
How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?
In my practice, my focus to explore innovative use of materials, manipulation of fabric finishing and experimental use of fibres with other materials.
