This is a process of laying fibre, using soap and water and lots of rubbing and rolling to create a strong, durable textile.

Q&A

Artist Statement

The textiles pieces themselves will last for a lifetime but are also fully biodegradable and thus the process is a sustainable and environmentally friendly. I try to use Irish wool when and where I can and all my products are wrapped in reused and recycled/ recycable materials.I am a previous chairperson of Feltmakers Ireland (2018-2021) the 80 strong, national guild of Feltmakers. I am also the current chairperson for “Original Kildare” a 30 members craft collective of makers and designers all working in the county.I sell my work, both directly ( on line and at craft markets) and in independent retailers.

What inspires you to work with this craft?

Inspired by the roar of the wild Atlantic way, the Ocean and the draw of the sea around our island.

What have you learnt or the best advice you have received that you would like to share with fellow crafters?

I also teach, in libraries, schools and private workshops. Sharing my skills and seeing how the children (and adults) respond in the creation of felt is very fun. feltmaking is a very sensory and tactile process.
