Culture & Context

Chemical Water is the base I use for making my own inks with Iron and Madder. I’ve used Urea which slows down the ink drying time allowing it to seep into the fabric creating a stronger printed image. A teaspoon of washing soda softens the water. To thicken the water I’ve used Manutex which is a seaweed based ingredient. This creates the base for the ink.

Process & Production

Warm water, washing soda and urea mixed together will last indefinitely and when manutex is added this will last about a month. Blend with an hand blender to ensure all the manutex has dissolved and leave overnight to thicken.
