Process & Production

This sample shows an engraving technique on flash glass. Flash glass is a sheet glass that is usually used in stained glass windows. It is a sheet of clear glass with a thin layer of transparent colour on one side. The colour can be removed with acid or by engraving.

I created this portrait study by carving into the green colour with a range of smooth diamond wheels in an array of sizes. I carved deeply to achieve light tones and white in the drawing. I carved shallow to achieve dark loans and black in the drawing.
