Process & Production

Waste glass has been collected, cleaned, crushed, and sieved to a variety of sized cullet before it was carefully positioned in a flatbed kiln and fused. This piece used low and high iron plate glass with a variety of cullet sizes to create an artistic replication of a tree.

The glass undergoes a special firing schedule that transforms the glass from a glassy transparent material into a crystalline material that looks and behaves more like a stone or a ceramic material. The glass material is still hydrophobic and does not absorb any water. It is no longer transparent but has aesthetic features that can be semi-transparent.

Fusion using temperature between 800-900degree Celsius.
