First you must clean the pieces that are to be joined. Then the correct flux must be used. Apply flux w(white paste or powder) to the areas you want to join. Slowly bring both materials to the correct temperature (just before the start of the material turning red). If you over heat it is unlikely to solder. I generally use 1.6mm silver solder rods, 40% silver content. When both areas heated apply the stick to metal. It should run in the fluxed areas.
