Process & Production

I hand made these tiles to create a bigger wall piece that is exploring textures, colours and negative space within the sculpture.

31 tiles were made and decorated to create layers and textures with some tiles glazed and textured and others left mat to create a contrast. I made a template in tracing paper and numbered each tile, so that the piece can be reasembled when it is exhibited. The engobes were painted on and then the edges scratched out to create sharp and defined lines.

The base colour of the tiles is white (clay) with some tiles having red engobe painted on and others having inclusions from the woodfiring kiln that was used to imprint the texture into the clay.
