Evy Cornelissen

I am a multidisciplinary designer with a keen interest in material research, textiles and sustainability. It has been observed that kindness is often mistaken for weakness, however, I believe that genuine connections are what the world truly requires. Additionally, I am of the opinion that design at various levels can enhance connectedness.

Artist Statement

During my studies at the Design Academy Eindhoven I developed an approach that combines conceptual thinking and material experimentation into an intuitive way of working. An important part for me is the process of discovering the hidden potential of materials and techniques. Striving for the preservation of craftsmanship and strengthening sustainability.

Throughout my studies, I learnt the significance of acknowledging our detachment from nature, our individualistic culture and our insensitive way of producing, and to become sensitive and honest about our reality and future. Questioning material qualities, material culture, history and existing systems is important to me in my work. In order to further develop this approach, I am now studying at the Design School in Kolding as a textile designer in the department of Design for Planet. Here I work on projects commissioned by companies as well as self-initiated work.

For me, textiles are a tactile communication tool to use within the design process. Although my main discipline is textile, I consider other materials, methods and crafts such as drawing and photography to be relevant in my practice. I believe that a designer should be able to work in a multidisciplinary way.
