Suri Poulos
I am interested in the fusion of practical forms and art. I want those who use my pots to feel they are well designed for their purpose but are also elegant and sculptural. I strive to express myself as a painter in my work and create opportunities for "happy accidents" to occur in my use of colour and pattern. I enjoy the contrast of rich colour against the canvas created by white porcelain. I work in my own studio, in a converted caravan in my garden, with my kiln under a tree.

Artist Statement
My intention is to create practical art. Although these pieces are intended to be used and enjoyed at a table, in the kitchen or held in one’s hand, I strive to create elegant, sculptural forms that highlight colour and intricate pattern. My porcelain pieces are made using the Nerikomi technique, to embed coloured clay patterns within the porcelain clay body rather than applied to the surface. The pieces are either thrown on a potters wheel, hand built, or pressed into moulds. |
