Culture & Context

The woman who is portrayed in this piece is based on one of the sketches I did use vouge models as reference. The aim of this piece is to show Glamour and beauty while also using second-hand and reused materials. I decided to use the tea bags after being horrified to find out the ones I had brought were entirely plastic, I wanted to make sure they didn’t go to waste. I did not buy that brand again.

This piece now belongs to the University of Dundee so I’ve included a photo of its catalog Number.

Process & Production

The Main Body of this piece is a needle punch, once that was done I moved on to the 3D aspect of this piece. To create the flowers I cut apart my teabags, cleaned and dried them then cut them into similar-sized circles. Then using a french Knot Stitch I held them in place. The sleeve is also teabags glued into place and the sequins are then sewn on top to cover the glue marks. Most of my Needle Punch are glued down at the back, and I had begun to do that as you can see, but realized that the thread was densely packed in such a tight weave of fabric that it wasn’t needed.
