Q&A

Artist Statement

I love exploring and capturing texture in clay. I love the making process, the qualities of the material, the plasticity, strength and malleability of the clay.

What craft do you work with?

Raku clay – Ceramics – Pottery

What inspires you to work with this craft?

As I walk, I observe my surroundings both in detail and expansive views, and combine this visual journey into a piece of work.

How do you start your creative process?

I use a range of mark making techniques, including manipulating, tearing and stretching the clay to recreate the textures of the landscape. Rugged terrain, rocky outcrops, the forty shades of green in fields; I translate these images into my work.

How would you best describe your workspace and what tools could you not do without?

I use raku clay which is fired to earthenware temperature and underglaze colour is added in repeated firings to build up colour and texture.
